Description
Discover the spirit of kintsugi through a creative jewelry-making workshop in Shibuya.
Kintsugi is a traditional Japanese restoration technique that repairs broken ceramics with lacquer and gold powder.
Rather than hiding cracks and imperfections, kintsugi highlights them, transforming traces of damage into part of an object’s beauty and history.
In this workshop, explore that philosophy through a modern jewelry-making experience.
Choose from a variety of broken ceramics, glass, and sea glass, then combine your favorite pieces to create an original accessory.
Start by selecting the type of item you would like to make.
Options include pierced earrings, clip-on earrings, necklaces, bracelets, bangles, rings, brooches, keychains, and cutlery rests.
Next, browse the available materials and choose the colors, shapes, and textures that match your personal style.
Arrange the pieces freely until you find a design you like.
Once your design is ready, attach the pieces using putty.
After the putty has dried, apply a gold-colored finish along the joined areas to create the distinctive visual effect inspired by kintsugi.
No previous craft or jewelry-making experience is required. A professional instructor will guide you through each step.
The workshop is also a fun experience for couples, friends, and families who would like to create matching or complementary pieces together.
At the end of the approximately 90-minute workshop, your finished accessory will be placed in a box and carefully packaged so you can take it home as a unique souvenir from Tokyo.
