Description
Step away from Osaka’s busy streets and spend 90 minutes experiencing zazen inside an active Rinzai Zen temple.
Rather than simply visiting a Buddhist temple, take part in the practice itself and learn directly from the resident monk of Tenshoji Temple in Tennoji.
Begin with an introduction to Buddhism, Zen, and the meaning of zazen.
Learn how to approach posture, breathing, and awareness before settling into meditation.
You will then take part in two guided zazen sessions of approximately 20 minutes each, with a short break between the sessions.
If sitting on the floor is difficult, chair meditation is also available.
After practicing zazen, continue the experience through a conversation with the monk.
Ask questions about Zen, Buddhism, meditation, or the thoughts and sensations you experienced while sitting.
The resident priest trained at Shokoku-ji, one of Japan’s major Rinzai Zen temples, and also has an academic background in science and clinical psychology.
This combination offers an opportunity to encounter Zen not only as a meditation technique, but also as a traditional philosophy and a way of approaching everyday life.
No previous meditation or Zen experience is required.
Whether you are completely new to meditation or already have an established practice, this private session offers a quiet and thoughtful introduction to Zen culture in Osaka.
