Description
Step inside the disciplined world of sumo during a private morning training experience in Tokyo.
Limited to one private group per day, this experience gives you the opportunity to watch wrestlers train at close range without the distractions of a large public audience.
Choose between a focused morning-practice viewing or an extended plan that allows you to enter the ring and try beginner-friendly sumo movements under professional guidance.
Watch authentic sumo training up close
Morning practice is an essential part of a wrestler’s daily life.
Observe the concentration, repetition, physical strength, and discipline required to develop as a sumo wrestler. Hear the impact of bodies meeting and the heavy sound of feet striking the ground as the wrestlers repeat fundamental movements and practice bouts.
This is a working training session rather than a staged performance. The exact training content, number of wrestlers, and pace of the session may differ according to the wrestlers’ schedules and physical condition.
Understand what happens inside the training space
Your guide will introduce the basic structure of a sumo training session and explain the purpose of movements that may be unfamiliar to first-time visitors.
Learn about training routines, hierarchy, etiquette, the role of the ring, and the daily discipline required in the sumo world.
To respect the wrestlers’ concentration, explanations and questions will be handled only at appropriate moments.
Choose the experience that suits you
The viewing plan focuses on observing the morning practice and learning about sumo through your guide’s explanations.
After training, the plan includes a commemorative photo opportunity. It does not include entering the ring, practicing sumo, or a separate meet-and-greet session.
The ring-experience plan includes the private morning-practice viewing, photo time, and a beginner-friendly practical session after the training has finished.
Step into the ring with the experience plan
When the ring-experience option is selected, enter the training area after the morning practice.
Learn basic posture, foot movement, and simple sumo techniques with guidance from the wrestlers or staff.
You will also have the opportunity to try a controlled pushing exercise and experience the stability and strength of a trained wrestler firsthand.
The practical session is designed for beginners and is conducted according to the instructions and safety judgment of the wrestlers and staff.
Finish with a unique Tokyo memory
At the end of the experience, take a commemorative photograph with the wrestlers.
Although the atmosphere inside the ring is intense, the experience is designed to help international visitors and families understand sumo in a respectful and approachable way.
