Start with a live demonstration of traditional brush techniques, followed by an introduction to ancient scripts such as Tensho (seal script) and Reisho (clerical script). Learn how these styles evolved from Chinese origins to Japan’s unique aesthetic, and how each brushstroke expresses balance and harmony. You’ll then practice your own kanji — perhaps a word that resonates with you, such as “夢 (Dream)” or “和 (Harmony)” — before creating a final artwork on a shikishi board or fan. The instructor will explain the meaning and form of your chosen character, and correct your brushwork using traditional red ink guidance.
